COVID Cup Race Highlights and Results

On Saturday, March 6, 2021, our Racing Rabbits and Junior and Senior Ski Teams participated in a freestyle sprint event as part of Cross Country Ski Ontario’s COVID Cup series. In non-COVID times, this weekend would have been the Youth Championships races in Timmins.

The challenging yet very fun sprint course was set up on the Mockingbird Hill loop – thank you to the groomers at Hiawatha Highlands and Farmer Bob for allowing corduroy to be laid down in the centre of the hill. All three groups started their sprint with 100m of climbing, and ended the course on an icy downhill with a hairpin corner.

Participation, technique, and sportsmanship were the focus of this event. A big thanks goes out to Helen Lindfors for being on course to watch our skiers, provide feedback, and select technique winners. Additional thanks go to our team coaches, our club president, and key parents for helping make this event happen. All participating skiers were awarded with a bag of candy after practice. Well done!
