TIPS re: HOW TO DRESS

  1. NO COTTON! Cotton stays wet and provides NO warmth when wet.
  2. WOOL or FLEECE are the best for insulation and warmth.
  3. DRESS IN LAYERS:
Base layers (top and bottom) – wool or technical fabric (aka – long underwear)
Insulation layer – (top) – fleece or wool – add a vest or extra layer for more warmth on colder days
Outer layer – (top and bottom) – windbreak fabric. XC ski jackets/pants for light insulation with breathable outer layer. Regular ski jackets/pants for extra warmth.
  4. HEAD and NECK
(40-60% heat loss from here) Therefore: scarf or buff, plus hat!
  5. HANDS and FEET
MITTS are warmer than gloves. Windblock outer layer with insulation is best.
BOOTS – single layer wool or technical socks. Too thick = too tight = cold feet.
  6. EYES
Sunglasses or clear lenses – protect your eyes from sun, or extreme wind and blowing snow. It’s safer going down a hill if you can see!
